We store the electricity for you. Until you need it!
Sun and wind do not deliver on demand. At noon, there’s often more electricity than is needed, but not enough in the evening. Our battery storage systems bridge this gap: They capture what would otherwise be lost and release it when demand is at its highest. That is why, we founded our own company, BLOCH3 S, in 2026. After all, generating electricity is one thing! Making sure it’s available when it’s needed is another.
Keep it
instead of giving it away.
Imagine a jug. On good days, it overflows; by night, it’s empty. An energy storage system is simply a second jug standing beside it. To this day, surplus electricity is sold cheaply abroad and bought back at a high price just a few hours later. In the end, everyone pays for this through their electricity bills.
A large-scale battery storage system puts an end to exactly that. It is located where the electricity is generated and keeps it in the region until it is needed. Not some distant technology of the future, but a technology that works today.
Wind, sun, and storage
Our energy storage systems are not a separate chapter alongside wind and photovoltaics. They are the final piece of the puzzle. Wind turbines generate electricity primarily in winter and at night, while photovoltaics produce most of their energy in summer and around midday. Energy storage brings the two together, creating a reliable energy supply that is available around the clock.
This is particularly valuable where a grid connection is already in place. Just as with our hybrid wind and solar park, we make use of existing infrastructure rather than encroaching on additional land.
Built with care and fully demountable
A battery storage system doesn’t need to be tall or have any moving parts. What you see are compact containers on a fenced-off site — landscaped with greenery, quiet, and barely noticeable from the road in most cases.
Every individual cell is continuously monitored, and if anything unusual is detected, the system automatically shuts down. A dedicated safety concept is developed for each site before the facility is connected to the grid. And at the end of its service life, the entire facility is dismantled: the site is restored to the condition in which we received it, and the raw materials from the batteries are recovered for recycling. The funds required for this are set aside from the very beginning.
Christoph Schmidt, Managing Director of BLOCH3 S
“Energy storage is the infrastructure our power grid needs.”
Christoph Schmidt is the managing director of BLOCH3 S GmbH—the Blochberger Group company that develops, builds, and operates battery storage facilities throughout Austria. From the initial site assessment through planning, permitting, and grid connection to ongoing operations, everything is handled under one roof. This is precisely what sets BLOCH3 S apart from pure project developers: what is built here is also maintained for decades.
His approach is practical. Storage systems absorb costly grid peaks, thereby lowering costs for households and businesses. They keep the system stable when generation and consumption are out of sync. And they ensure that electricity produced in Austria is also used in Austria—delayed, wherever it is needed. For the regions, this means added value, jobs, and a bit more independence from imports.
Responsibility Beyond His Own Company
As President of the Austrian Energy Storage Association (Bundesverband Energiespeicher Österreich), Christoph Schmidt also represents the interests of the energy storage sector in dealings with policymakers, public authorities, regulatory bodies and grid operators. The association brings together expertise, connects market participants and works to ensure that energy storage is finally recognised for what it is: valuable infrastructure for the grid, serving the interests of citizens.
Thinking Entrepreneurially, Acting Locally
Guided by this principle, BLOCH3 S combines technical expertise with entrepreneurial responsibility. It is part of a family-owned business based in Krumbach, in the Bucklige Welt region of Austria. Under the leadership of brothers Martin, Andreas and Franz Blochberger, the company has been operating wind turbines, photovoltaic systems and battery storage facilities across several regions of Austria for years – today generating regional electricity for more than 170,000 people.
The journey has never been merely theoretical. It begins with every individual project, every municipality and every partner who relies on dependable execution.
